There are many stories of lost treasures of Hallyn. Many claim that those who winter in Hallyn have secret deals with the dwarves. Or that they've stolen treasures from the caravans. Others claim that the peoples have poisoned caravan leads and stolen their goods. Or worse, that they are in cahoots with the wolves, stealing goods. Most don't believe these tales, but they are constantly told in the taverns along the road, or around campfires on the way to Hallyn. These rumours have never been true. The only treasure that stays in Hallyn, buried beneath the jaunty, lightning struck, mountain ash deep in the heart of the forest, are the stolen Crown Jewels.
Krovas was the only survivor of the thieves who robbed the royal treasury, amongst his team of four. After robbing the king's treasury, Krovas immediately fled to dwarven territory to fence his ill gotten gains. Making it to Hallyn with a price on his head, though with no one knowing his face. He attempted to sell the crown jewels to the dwarves, and suddenly realized that dwarves didn't want human art or metal, scoffing at the metal's purity and the cut of the gems. So Krovas waits in Hallyn until the King's son dies, the last person to have seen the crown jewels in person.
Krovas was the second story man of the team, the one who scaled the high tower, where the jewels were kept at the top. His daughter, Balila, was the mastermind, she planned the event, and acted as lookout. She was successful in alerting the others to the approach of the King's treasurer ahead of schedule. She died in the king's prison, never giving up her father. His mentor, Virak, was the locksmith. Krovas never felt comfortable enough defeating the grand locks of the palace. Virak jumped from the tower, attempting to scale the rope that Krovas had set, but slid from the rope. Finally, Krovas's friend Craya, their distraction, had walked into the belly of the beast. She was killed by the guards when they realized she was part of the robbery crew and she attempted to run. Krovas managed to slide down the rope, and had slid into the shadows. He waited a week at their safehouse in the old labyrinth, and has never learned what happened to the rest of the crew.
Krovas dreams of the day he will be able to spend his wealth. Only the king, his treasurer, and the crown prince, had seen the crown jewels. Krovas is waiting for news of the death of the new King, and then he will head south and finally fence the mind bendingly beautiful crowns, scepters, rings, and necklaces. He plans to use the money gained to begin a thieves guild of his own. Use the money to create a network of safe houses, training courses, and caches of tools. Then he will recruit muscle and slowly recruit and train urchins.
Then he will get his revenge on the royal family who killed his daughter, the only thing he cared about.
